Rates and Mechanism of the Reactions of Aquaoxomolybdenum (IV) Trimer with Vanadium (V)

Abstract
The kinetics of the reaction of [Mo3O4(H2O)9]4+ with VO2+ have been studied at 25¡É by spectrophotometric method. With VO2+ in excess, the [Mo3O4(H2O)9]4+ reaction can be expressed as Mo¥³3 + 6V¥´ ¡ê 3Mo¥µ + 6V¥³. Observed rate constants for the reaction are dependent on [H+] and [VO2+]. Mechanism for the redox of [Mo3O4(H2O)9]4+ and VO2+ is proposed and discussed.
